Shoaib Malik - a poor choice for test captain - Bring back Younis

Well, the good news is that Salman Butt isn't the captain. Butt, naturally would be disappointed. After hearing his name as a possible choice in the media for a couple of weeks, he must have thought to himself, "Well, maybe I can get a game or two now, if they make me captain!" Well, that's not to be. Don't worry Salman, Imran Nazir will soon be out of the team, and you will make a comeback, score a 100, then a 50, then a string of zeros. But, that's not the point of this post.

Good thing Yousuf isn't the captain. Now is not the time to give the responsibility to another devoutly religious man with a beard till his knees. We need focus, we need direction and we don't need distraction from mullas or the tableeghi. We needed change and change is what we have gotten. Shoaib Malik is now the captain, and this blogger is pleased from the point of view of ODI's, but certainly not with tests.

This chap has 16 test matches under his belt, is by no means, a a test player, or a certainty in the squad and is now the test captain? Rubbish. Test match cricket is truly what cricket is all about and if the PCB have any sense of responsibility, they would do their utmost to convince Younis Khan to become the test captain. That would be ideal in my opinion. Shoaib Malik as ODI captain, and Younis as test, with neither playing playing in the other format, so there is no conflict. Shoaib doesn't deserve to be in the test team, while Younis is possibly, the worst 1 down player, Pakistan has ever produced.

I totally disagree with you Omar. Given the current circumstances and looking into future Malik is no doubt the best choice. Younis is basically a coward player and is running away from the most important phase in Pakistan Cricket. It has happened once before when he had done his ridiculous yes no story for Champions trophy and its no use repeating this time.

As far as the type of player Malik is, you should know that Pakistan started that once in a million Big total chasing habit mostly because of Malik's one down performances with the bat. Indeed he is the only player with much better cricketing brain than the rest.

And as you are not satisfied with his test performances, its all matter of time that he will excel, and by the way its not a piece of cake to play for saving a match against Muralitharan's SriLankans in their backyard. How many batsmen all over the world have got succeeded in such a role.

InshaAllah we will rise with Malik as captain. All we need is patience.

First of all thanks for linking back to me.

Why Younis Khan?
I think Shoaib Malik is the second best choice after Mohammad Yousuf. Malik is still 25 years old and needs to play a lot of matches. I too hate Younis Khan. I think Yousuf, Razzaq and Malik can only be the captain

younis khan is a coward, he cant lead pakistan. he was given the chance twice and both times he let us down. personally i hope he just gets dropped from the team. hes is an overated ODI player who has been playing because of his test record. YOUNIS KHAN CAN GO TO HELL

Omar, I agree with you having Shoaib and Younas captaining the ODI and Test squads respectively, I would however have Shoaib VC in the Test. That will give him time to gain experiance and test caps until he can captain himself.

Kamran, as disappointed as I am by Younas refusing the ODI captaincy, we have no idea of his mental state following all that happened in the windies. He is emotional and maybe that gets the better of him sometimes. Still he is smart enough to stay for real cricket on the test side.

How about a team for Shoaib, Have a look at my choices and lets see what you propose.
